Packers LB Barnett to back off his Twitter page

The Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett said on Wednesday that he was retired from Twitter. But as fans kept coming to ask him to return, Barnett changed his words to “back off for a while.”

“I was retired from Twitter,” Barnett said. “And the fans, they kept coming, like ‘You need to come back, we really enjoy having this. We’ve never had this before.’ And I was like, maybe I need to get back on there. I’m going to take it slow right now.”

To quit Twitter is a typical Barnett’s emotional demeanor. It is hard to find an exact reason for the quitting. But Barnett did make a couple of posts after Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, saying that he didn’t agree with coaches’ strategy of rotating him with other linebackers during the game. He also indicated that it was unfair for some fans to criticize him for celebrating a big play immediately after missing a tackle. Barnett sustained a major knee injury last season and thought that he was brought back too slowly.

It seems that the Twitter has become a trouble maker among the NFL and league even has established strict guidelines for the use of social networking sites earlier this season. Such guidelines caused Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco to threaten that he would delete his account.
