Redskins CB Westbrook was arrested for drunk driving

The Washington Redskins cornerback Byron Westbrook became another NFL player being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The brother of Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was arrested on Friday but released on later.

Perhaps learning something from what happened to former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth, Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said the team is taking the issue very seriously instead of just saying “we are aware of the issue.” According to Allen, the team officials plan to meet with Byron and continue to monitor the situation.

25-year-old Westbrook was pulled over about 2 a.m. on Route 5 at Lakewood Place after a deputy saw a Mercedes cross the center line several times. The deputy smelled alcohol in the vehicle and then administered field sobriety tests that Westbrook failed. He was arrested with charges of driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated, negligent driving and failure to drive right of center. It was after his personal recognizance that the cornerback was released.

As a professional player playing football in NFL jerseys, Westbrook has been in the league for a couple of years and should have been aware of what he should avoid doing. What a disappointment to keep hearing such news from these players!
