OL Langston Walker returned to Raiders to help on offense line

After spending the 2007 and 2008 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, offensive lineman Langston Walker re-signed with the Oakland Raiders, who picked him in second round draft of 2002. The Raiders waived injured fullback Oren O’Neal on the same day and expected Walker to help on the offensive line.

Before signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Bills, Walker had spent his first five seasons in Raiders jersey. So it would not be difficult for him to learn the system in short time. With his weight down from 380 pounds to about 362, Walker’s frame is still very big for a zone blocking lineman who needs to be athletic enough to get upfield to make blocks, and that might be why the Raiders waited a week after trying out the lineman to decide to bring him back. The Raiders’ offensive line has been hurt by injuries to left guard Robert Gallery and right tackle Cornell Green, and Walker’s experience may help a lot in improving the offense.

O’Neal, a sixth-round pick by the Raiders in 2007, started off this season as the Raiders’ starting fullback but later lost the job to Luke Lawton. His ankle injury caused him to be waived by the Raiders and would be placed on injured reserve list if no team to claim him on waivers.
