Nowitzki led Mavericks to 99-98 win over Thunder

The Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki scored 32 points in Friday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, being the top performer who led the Dallas team to a tight 99-98 victory.

The Mavericks had allowed at least 100 points in four of their last five games. After the Thunder shot nearly 50 percent in the first half, the Mavericks held Oklahoma City to 36 percent shooting (14 of 39) the rest of the way.

“We have been struggling defensively,” Nowitzki said. “We wanted to make some adjustments defensively, and I think in the second half they worked pretty good.”

The victory ended Mavericks’ two-game home losing streak that had Rick Carlisle questioning his team’s defense. There looked to be some carry over into the first half as the Thunder took advantage of 10 Mavericks turnovers for a 55-48 lead at halftime. Jason Terry scored 21 points, and Josh Howard and Jason Kidd each contributed 11 points in the team’s ninth consecutive win over the Thunder in Dallas since 2004.

As for those in Thunder jerseys, Kevin Durant scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds as the top performer and the second best performer Russell Westbrook added 18 points and 3 assists. As I mentioned above, it was a narrow loss and Durant’s performance was much better than what he gave when the two teams met in December, when he had only 12 points.
